Why Rituals Matter - Marking this Winter Solstice Meaningfully

The winter solstice is the longest night of the year. For most of us, it passes without much notice, another chilly day in the midst of winter.

But for countless cultures across centuries, people have paused at this threshold, not because they were promised something extraordinary, but because they understood something modern societies are slowly remembering: ritual matters.

Ritual as a Tool for Meaning-Making

For some, the word ritual is associated with superstition or religion. This day retreat will be guided through a yogic lens, yet it can be approached as a practical technology for navigating being human.

Rituals help us digest experience, providing a container and helping us express emotions and transitions that might otherwise move through us unprocessed.

We live in a culture that moves rapidly, prizing productivity and stimulation. In this landscape, often the inner work (grief, uncertainty, growth) doesn't get the space it needs. Rituals creates that space.

The Winter Solstice: An Anchor Point

The winter solstice offers us a chance to sit with the darkness before rushing toward the light. Acknowledging where we are, what we are carrying, and what we are ready to release.

When we gather in community to mark a moment, we reinforce our connection to each other and to something larger than our individual experience. We come into alignment with our values through self-inquiry and embodied, collective practice.

A Winter Solstice Day Retreat in the Yarra Valley

On Sunday 21st June, Jodie and Jessie are hosting a winter solstice day retreat in Belgrave, on the edge of the Yarra Valley, for a day of practice, reflection and community.

The day brings together asana, kriya yoga, japa mantra, meditation and journaling, practices that encourage you to release and cultivate the conditions for renewal and resilience.

With a break for some warming vegan food, rest, and time to connect with others.

Who This is For

If you have been feeling the weight of the year, the pull towards stillness, or wanting to find ways of meaning-making in your life - this day is for you.

No prior yoga experience is required, only a willingness to show up.

11:30am - 4:30pm Sunday 21st June | Belgrave, Yarra Valley

Guided by Jodie Stroll and Jessie Kindynis
